One month on, Newcastle University academics will provide expert comment and context to help understand the recent events in Ukraine. Over the next three episodes, we will learn about the history of the conflict, hear perspectives from neighbouring countries and explore Britain\u2019s response to Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this episode (recorded on 16 March) we talk to <strong>Dr Rob Dale<\/strong> about the history behind the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rob is Lecturer in Russian History at Newcastle University, with a particular emphasis on twentieth-century Russian and Soviet history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this episode we will explore the underlying causes of the war and learn more about the two leaders, Zelensky and Putin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find our more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/hca\/people\/profile\/robertdale.html\">Rob&#8217;s research<\/a> and follow him on twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrRobDale\">@DrRobDale<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside our friends and partners across the City, Newcastle University stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
